GARDEN DRAINAGE FOR SURREY, HAMPSHIRE AND LONDON

With steep banking and a failing drainage infrastructor an improved garden drainage solution was required for this substatial project in Chiddingfold, Godalming, Surrey, GU8.

Proposals here were phased over three different areas, including improved silt traps with connection from new installed drainage from both upper and lower areas, 200mm diameter pipe run discharging into a holding pond area, drainage to deal with lower walkway area and initial ingress management from and along the upper banking areas.

 

Ingress and flooding of driveway areas preventing a house development in Haslemere, Surrey, GU27 due to the clients house being located lower than the road.

A robust gravity fed drainage solution was proposed incorporating large diameter twiwnwall perforated drainage pipe discharging out into existing ditching, with other ditches made good. Additional twinwall pipe runs were installed to assist the removal of ingress from other areas including the rear garden, discharging into a pond. Driveway access works also included.

A large rear garden with substantial lawn areas in Guildford, Surrey, GU4, struggling with drainage issues caused by runoff and ingress from neighbouring open land, with the clay based soil type also adding to the problems.

A gravity fed solution was not possible so a large sump with pump was proposed and installed. An extensive drainage detail was implemented within the required lawn areas.

An area of garden prone to flooding in Surbiton, Greater London, KT6 requiring landscaping but struggling with flooding issues from a neighbouring property.

Cooperation between the two parties meant a combined drainage system could be proposed leading to a sump with pump, within our main clients garden. A drainage solution was implemented within both properties with additional landscaping within our main clients garden.

Lawn drainage issues in a recently completed landscaped garden in Hersham, Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, KT12, requiring a more robust drainage solution.

New lawn drainage installed to a higher specification over three seperate areas, all joined together with a gravity fed system via a silt trap chamber.

With increasing ingress from neighbouring higher ground from the top of this garden in Wimbledon, London, SW19, a solution was required to manage the ingress and connect to an oulet point at a lower level near to the house.

Three main drainage runs were installed accross the width of the garden, along the top, middle and bottom, all joining up to disperse into a stormwater chamber near to the house. Constant ingress causing callapse of trenching near to the top area and the steep gradient of this garden made for a difficult project with unexpected persistent rainfall throughout.

 

An unusable garden in Bramley, Tadley, Hampshire, RG26 due to developers neglecting to recognise major issues with ingress from higher ground as the cleints house was situated end of plot, collecting runoff from the estate.

A drainage plan was implemented allowing for landscaping of the entire garden. A difficult shaped garden to design around the required drainage detail. A sump with pump had to be included as the developers refused a simple gravity fed solution which could connect to a nearby holding pond.

House development with installation of soakaways within our clients property in Dulwich, London, SE21 had caused major flooding issues within a lower neighbouring garden. An alternative to the soakways was required with additional lawn drainage to assist and prevent migration of water to the lower neighbouring property.

A large sump with pump was required replacing the soakaways, installed along with lawn drainage within the lower half of the garden. Connection from the existing soakaways to the new drainage detail was made to prevent them over flowing, keeping them low.

 

High retaining walls with no drainage detail behind them in Cobham, Surrey, KT11 causing issues with planting border flooding directly in front of them. It is was not going to be possible to install drainage behind them retrospectively.

Border areas were reduced down to retaining wall foundations, drainage detail installed, drainage aggregate layer included then soil replaced, improved with 6mm hort grit and organic matter. Drainage leading to a large sump with pump with a final dispersal point within stormwater connections.

A garden with major drainage issues in Raynes Park, London, SW20. Initial contact here from the client was to assess previous attemps of resolving ongoing drainage issues after they had their rear garden landscaped.

Drainage had been installed but unfortunatly badly implemented through lawn and planting border areas. The completed lawn had also been laid upon a very poor soil medium. A new gravity fed drainage scheme was proposed, picking up planting border areas along with a newly laid lawn over lawn drainage with new imported soil medium to help establish the new lawn.

Extensive drainage was required for all lawn areas for this garden in Wrecclesham, Surrey. With a predominant heavy sticky clay soil type, during wet conditions these lawn areas in both rear and front gardens remained waterlogged and unusable.

Over 300m of drainage trenches were proposed and implemented through out all lawn areas. Trenches were made good on completion and re-seeded.

Ground water poured through this garden in Ascot, Surrey from higher ground, leaving it unusable through out the year. The solution was to install extensive drainage and to terrace the garden creating practical level areas and to enable the inclusion of an additional drainage layer over the entire garden.

Timber sleepers were used for terracing and the raised planter. Old English Chippings were used for walkways and seating areas.

A drainage solution was proposed within the lawn areas for this property in Steep, Hampshire to prevent future flooding of the house after the 2013-2014 floods.

Three main drainage trenches were strategically located within the lawn areas to catch run off from the higher ground beyond the property and diverted to lower areas within the garden away from the house.

A front garden and lawn area in Crondall, Hampshire that remained unusable through out the year due to severe water logging.

A major drainage solution was required including land drains, a drainage layer, the raising of areas with imported topsoil and a new lawn.

A very long and wet, waterlogged garden in Wormley, Godalming, Surrey, that remained unusable through out the year.

An extensive drainage solution was proposed incorporating land drains the entire length of the garden. All drainage runs were made good and re-turfed. On completion the garden had already dried sufficiently to use again.

Approximately 1000m² of lawn in Oxshott, Surrey with an existing poor soil medium for both front and rear gardens leaving lawn areas very water logged and difficult to manage.

Extensive land drainage was installed, new rootzone medium imported in after removal of the existing soil and lawns re-turfed.

Grey water management in Winchfield, Hampshire. The clients remit here was to enable the dispersal of excess grey water within their property. The solution proposed involved the controlled discharge of grey water through a drainage layer.

The area was re-designed and landscaped to hide any evidence of the drainage layer.

A rear garden lawn in London, NW6. An existing poor soil medium left this rear London lawn water logged and unusable for the all the family. The remit given by the client was to provide a high quality lawn suitable for all the family, useable through out the year.

Extensive land drainage was installed, new rootzone medium imported in after removal of the existing soil and lawns re-turfed.

Drainage layers and lawn drainage in Chobham, Surrey. Drainage layers incorporating twinwall drainage pipe work was proposed and installed around a new oak barn build to future proof the area.

Land drains were also incorporated through the majority of the rest of the garden to alleviate waterlogged lawn areas connected up to a road culvert and field ditches.  

Lawn drainage in Wrecclesham, Farnham, Surrey. A poor moisture retentive soil type and constant in ground flow of water contributed to this rear lawn being wet and boggy.

Extensive land drains were installed and directed to the lower area of the garden where a discharge point was chosen, after passing through a water reservoir.  

A small confined garden in Cove, Farnborough, Hampshire struggling with very poor drainage and ground conditions preventing the familly from using the garden. A simple drainage scheme was proposed and implemented using a gravity fed system with drainage runs re-seeded.

A substantial garden drainage project in Esher, Surrey. With poor clay soil this lawn had always struggled with poor drainage. The proposed scheme was installed leading to a sump and pump as the only viable outlet point was an underground piped culvert cutting through the garden.

A wet and boggy lawn in East Horsley, Leatherhead, Surrey preventing the use of the garden all year round. Both drainage and a new lawn were proposed to help remidy the issue. Levels were first reduced, drainage installed capturing in ground and over ground flow from higher neighbouring properties, new hardwood sleeper edging installed and finally a new lawn laid upon a high quality rootzone medium.

A small rear garden in London SW2 struggling with constant water ingress from higher ground creating an unusable lawn area. A simple but effective land drainage solution was proposed and installed with areas re-turfed on completion.

Water here within this garden in Farnham, Surrey was constantly collecting behind substantial retaining walls and seeping through flooding the side pathways. The client agreed to deal with the issue house side of the retaining wall as the cost implications to install drainage behind the walling was to high.

The water was collected immediately at the foot of the wall and dispersed through land drain channels feeding into a solid pipe run beneath the driveway and finally dispersing into a shallow brook.

A residential block of flats in London NW6 struggling with unusable communal garden areas due to flooding and constantly saturated lawns. The gardens here were in two levels with both lawns requiring drainage.

Drainage was installed with the top area joined via land drain pipe to the lowest with a final dispersal point within the lowest areas of the garden. The main problem with this project was access and logistics of exporting and importing of materials.

To acheive a new lawn for this garden in Claygate, Surrey drainage issues needed to be dealt with first. The old lawn and garden struggled with poor lawn drainage due to the confined area, poor soil and an in ground flow of water from higher neighbouring properties.

Levels were reduced first then extensive drainage was installed connecting up to an existing storm water drain. New soil medium imported in and preped prior to a new lawn being laid.

Driveway drainage in Hook, Hampshire, RG27. A client in need of preventive drainage solutions to protect the house and garage from flooding again.

A robust drainage solution was installed including 200mm wide ductile iron grated surface linear drainage channels and adjoining 160mm pipe discharging within a flood plain behind the property.

 

 

Runoff from neighbouring higher agricultural fields and adjacent scrubland creating lawn drainage issues in Bramley, Guildford, Surrey, GU5. Existing ditching had failed along with historic water courses altered or blocked off. Reconnection was made to existing cleared out ditching.

Twinwall perforated 300mm pipe was installed boundary to boundary to reconnect the ditching to an existing running water course. Scrubland area adjacent to the garden was reshaped to assist the managed flow, dispersing into and through the installed twinwall pipe connecting to the running water course.

A garden in East Finchley, London, N2 with ongoing drainage issues with ingress from higher neighbouring allotment areas. This was also preventing installation of a garden building.

Lawn drainage installed close to the house terrace area with an adjoining drainage detail picking up the bottom of the garden along the boundary, adjacent to the higher allotments. All drainage flowing to a new sump with pump with the final dispersal point within a stormwater gully.

A long term drainage solution required for this garden in Cobham, Surrey, KT11 to help improve worsening drainage issues which were also causing problems with an existing small pond. A sump with pump solution required with extensive lawn drainage.

A mechanical flow ARAD water meter 1 1/2″ with electrical connection was also fitted, providing an accurate reading of the quanities of water being discharged.

Flooding of a shingled driveway area in Cranleigh, Surrey, GU6. Existing stormwater from the house also adding to the issues due to blocked and damaged pipework.

A positive gravity fed drainage solution was proposed and implented. Drainage detail installed within the problem driveway area along with new down pipe gullies and adjoining pipe work with connection to a perimeter ditch for an outlet point.

A combined land drainage issue and frequent water mains leaks making this garden in Guildford, Surrey, GU2 unusable for almost 2 years. The garden being the lowest in the road collected all the higher gardens runoff and frequent water mains leaks from the higher main road.

A large sump chamber was specified and installed along with a powerfull 0.55kw pump within the lowest areas of the garden, with an outlet point for the pumped water at house level. Drainage detail located specifically to manage the initial ingress in.

 

Tree removal and ground level alterations within a neigbouring property causing issues for this client in Guildford, Surrey, GU1. Our remit here was to help manage, divert and disperse a new issue of ingress from neighbouring higher ground.

Wide perimeter drainage runs installed all leading to a sump with pump. A drainage detail to assist in the planting of large laurel and bay hedging and screening was also installed, along with planting border clearance and soil improvement.
